Museum of the Future Dubai: Closed Since September, and Who's Still Selling Tickets

The museum's own site is direct about it: closed since the start of September 2026, reopening in the first quarter of 2027 with an entirely new exhibition. Its shop and a few other spaces stay open in the meantime. Some ticket sellers have not caught up with any of that.

Before anything else about dress code, duration or what the galleries cover: the Museum of the Future is not open to visitors right now, and will not be for some months yet. That single fact decides whether any of the rest of this is useful to you today.

Quick answer
The Museum of the Future closed to visitors at the start of September 2026 and is set to reopen in the first quarter of 2027 with an entirely new exhibition, confirmed directly on the museum’s own site. Its retail store and a few other spaces stay open in the meantime; the main galleries do not. Tickets for the renewed museum go on sale closer to reopening, not now. Despite that, at least one site still runs a live checkout selling “tickets” to the closed museum, and another presents itself as an official ticket page with no mention of the closure at all.

Closed since September 2026, confirmed directly from the museum

The museum’s own FAQ page is specific about dates and reasons, more specific than most attraction closures get.

What's still open right now

The closure is total for the exhibitions themselves. The museum’s online retail store keeps trading, and the site says some spaces remain accessible for selected activities and services, though it does not list which ones in detail. Event space bookings continue to be handled separately from the main closure, per the museum’s own FAQ. If an indoor museum was the point of the day, Al Shindagha, the heritage complex at the mouth of Dubai Creek, opens daily 10am to 8pm and is the nearest substitute.

Several sites are still selling tickets to a museum that isn't open

Two of the platforms that actually sell experience bookings, Expedia and TripAdvisor, have already pulled their Museum of the Future listings: both now show the product as unavailable rather than taking a booking. Not everyone has caught up.

Neither of the two outdated listings is run by the museum, and neither is an Anthropic or Desert Coast Guide partner. Treat any site that sells a Museum of the Future ticket today without mentioning the closure as out of date at best, and verify directly on museumofthefuture.ae before paying anyone.

What it cost before the closure, for context

Worth knowing for planning ahead, not for booking today: independent pricing reports from before the closure converge on a consistent figure for standard admission, plus a higher VIP tier.

TierPrice
Standard adultAED 149 (about $41)
Children under 3 or 4 (reports vary)Free

Getting there, and what you can still see

The building sits on Sheikh Zayed Road next to Emirates Towers, in the Trade Centre area of Dubai. The exterior, including the Arabic calligraphy wrapped around its torus shape, remains visible and photographable from the street during the closure: it is the inside that is off limits, not the site itself.

Seeing it from outside, on a half-day city tour

One option does not depend on the museum reopening: a private half-day tour that stops at the building for photos alongside Dubai Frame and the Blue Mosque, rather than selling entry to exhibitions that are not open. Worth it if seeing the exterior fits into a wider half-day out rather than a dedicated trip.

Half Day Dubai City Tour of Frame, Future Museum, & Blue Mosque

4.86 · 56 reviews

A private half-day tour with stops at Dubai Frame, the Museum of the Future and the Blue Mosque, plus drive-by views of Burj Al Arab and Palm Jumeirah. The Museum of the Future stop is a photo stop or foyer entry only, no exhibition ticket included, which matches the current closure rather than ignoring it.

Is the Museum of the Future open right now?

No. It closed to visitors at the start of September 2026 and is set to reopen in the first quarter of 2027, confirmed directly on the museum's own site. Its main exhibitions and experiences are not accessible during the closure, though a few spaces remain open for selected activities and services.

When will the Museum of the Future reopen?

The first quarter of 2027, timed to coincide with its fifth anniversary, per the museum's own FAQ page. It will reopen with an entirely new narrative and exhibitions rather than an update to what was there before, and no specific date has been set beyond that quarter.

Can I still buy a ticket to the Museum of the Future?

Not a real one. The museum's own FAQ says tickets for the renewed museum will go on sale closer to reopening, and it is not taking bookings for the closed exhibitions in the meantime. Some third-party sites are still listing tickets for sale regardless, worth reading carefully before paying anyone.

Why is the Museum of the Future closed?

Dubai Culture describes it as a ground-up reimagining rather than a refresh of the existing exhibitions: when it reopens, visitors get a new narrative, new exhibitions and new spaces replacing the museum's first iteration entirely, not an update to it.

Can I still see the Museum of the Future building from outside?

Yes, the exterior, including the Arabic calligraphy across its facade, remains visible and photographable from the street and the surrounding area. It is the interior exhibitions that are closed, not public access to the site itself.

What did a Museum of the Future ticket cost before the closure?

Independent reporting converges on AED 149 (about $41) for standard adult admission, with a higher-tier AED 399 pass bundling skip-the-line entry, valet parking and a store credit. The museum's own historical rate card is not reachable while the site is closed, so this is pre-closure reporting, not confirmed against the museum's own figures.

Spent a trip through the Gulf from 7 to 17 December 2023: Bahrain on the 11th, Dubai and Abu Dhabi over the 13th, 15th and 16th, Doha on the 17th. One trip through the Gulf, not four separate ones, which is the whole reason this site exists instead of a single-city blog. One trip three years ago does not make anyone an expert on a region, which is why every price, floor number and opening time here is checked against the operator's own site before it goes on a page, not remembered from the trip.

Verified: The closure dates, reopening quarter, reason for the closure and what stays open, from the Museum of the Future's own FAQ page (museumofthefuture.ae), checked 20 October 2026. That Expedia's and TripAdvisor's own ticket listings have been pulled, checked directly on both sites, same date. The two outdated third-party listings still selling or displaying tickets, checked directly on each site, same date. The building's location and coordinates, from Dubai Culture's own site (dubaiculture.gov.ae), same date. The half-day tour's stops, review count and that its Museum of the Future stop is a photo stop or unticketed foyer entry rather than an exhibition ticket, from Viator's own live listing, same date.

Not verified: The museum's own historical ticket price, since its booking system is not reachable during the closure; the AED 149 figure is independent pre-closure reporting, not the museum's own rate card. Whether the two outdated listings would actually process a payment if someone tried to book, since we did not attempt a purchase. Which specific spaces remain accessible during the closure beyond the retail store, since the museum's own site does not itemise them.
